Forgiveness… What does it mean to forgive others and why is it necessary? Today let’s think on this brief writing and forgive someone who has hurt you.
Forgiveness in my own personal opinion means to release or to let go of the wrongful actions someone did to you. When forgiving someone you are no longer accusing them of the action but letting the situation come to rest.
What forgiveness is not?
Saying they are forgiven but going to tell a friend of what they did.
Reminding them of what they did wrong months later.
Continually dwelling on the matter.
There are Biblical verses I hear in my head when it comes to forgiveness and it’s very clear we all make mistakes and need forgiveness. Here are those verses:
“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6:14-15 KJV
In order to receive forgiveness we must forgive.
“Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”
Matthew 18:22 KJV
There’s no limit on how many times you can forgive someone.
“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;”
Matthew 5:44 KJV
Forgiveness is a way to love those people who may have mistreated you.
“Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”
Luke 23:34 KJV
Jesus forgive the very people who drove the nails, mocked him, beat him, neglected him. Why can’t we?
Now that you have read a little on forgiveness, do have people in mind you need to forgive? If so, make the choice today to let it go. If you need prayer or support we are here for you.
